Philosophy of teaching
I view teaching as a collaboration--me sharing my knowledge and experiences with the students, the students sharing their knowledge and experiences with me, and students sharing that same information with each other. We then compare that to theory and real-life situations. It is through exploration of other experts' views and voices that we learn, and it is through input and insight from formal and informal primary research that we enhance our existing knowledge. We also learn how theory is applied to the everyday world--and how it pans out in the harsh light of practical reality.

I like for students to think of me more as a professional mentor and colleague--someone who has been down the road a bit further, and who has their best interests at heart, yet someone who is also still growing and learning everyday as a working professional in the field. I'm always delighted when a student who has graduated becomes a colleague who checks in every now and again to compare notes and trade PR war stories.
